In Korea Indian and Nepali cuisine seem to come hand in hand. The folks at Shanti in Hongdae keep the trend going with a menu full of dishes from both countries.
The menu has all the dishes you’d expect at a great Indidan restaurant. Appetizers include Somsa for 4,000 KRW, Masala Papad for 3,500 KRW, Vegetable Pakora and Aaludam spicy potatoes for 5,000 and 6,000 KRW. There’s also a bevy of curries like makhani, korma, masala, tika mashala do piaza, vindaloo, palak chicken and chicken tak a tak all between 9,m000 KRW and 11,000 KRW.
If you just can’t make up your mind then a set is your best bet. You can sample a little of several dishes all at a reasonable price. The Shani lunch set for 13,5000 KRW comes with a green salad, half a tandoori chicken, curry, nan, rice and a lassi or chai tea. The Nepali Thali set has curry, aludam, dal fry, dahl, nan and rice and the lassi or chai tea at 13,000 KRW.
The menu continues with barbecue dishes like chicken or lamb tikka, king prawns, or a trio of tangri, malai, or sheek kebabs as well as tandoori chicken. No trip to an Indian restaurant is complete with nan and it comes sweet, garlic, plain or buttery. I’m a sucker for the garlic nan and get it every time I see it on the menu.
