Searching for an authentic tea experience we decided to go and check out Lao She Tea House. The Tea House is named after a play, Lao She Chaguan, of the famous Chinese writer Lao She.
Lao She serves a variety of teas from around the world. You can find blends from Africa, India, Japan and China. If you’re there strictly for tea they will escort you to an area with several different tea rooms done in a range of styles. Once you select your room your hostess arrives and presents you with a menu of outrageously overpriced tea. With some deft searching we found something reasonable and ordered up a pot of tea.
The atmosphere was relaxed and meditative and the tea proved to be aromatic and flavorful.
Lao She Tea House also offers other enjoyments besides the tea, doubling as an Entertainment House. That’s right after a brisk tea service you can head up stairs and enjoy singers, muscians, acrobats, comedians, dancers, and even Chinese Opera performances.
The Tea House also serves dinner before the live show, so no need to rush out and grab a bite to eat.
There is a gift shop on the premises where you can purchase tea sets, blends of tea, opera dolls, and a bunch of other odds and ends.
If you’re in the mood for a spot of tea or a show then the Lao She Tea House just may have what you’re looking for.
