KMK: Beijing – At Night

International Travel

I wish I had more to say about Beijing at night. we were only there a short time and after a long hot day of sightseeing we were more inclined to seek out a nice cool beer at the bar in the hostel.

Yet, we did manage to get out and about at night to see some of what the city had to offer with the sun set. A hightlight for me was Tiananmen Square at night. The buildings around the square as well as the Maosoleum came alive with bright lights trimming their edges. It was as if the buildings were lifted off a light bright set.

Looks like the Chinese authorities are sticklers about bugle playing.

Even with electric lights blazing Tiananmen Square still exuded a throwback to another time vibe. It made the perfect backdrop for some kung fu inspired Charlie’s Angels posing.

Sometimes the place felt like midday the lights were so bright.

With a population over ten million Beijing felt oddly empty at night. I expected the streets to be packed with people scurrying here and there at all hours of the day and night. Perhaps we were just in the wrong are at the wrong time and missed the happening places. Didn’t matter much to us. We still had fun clowning around the square.
