KMK: Vegan Space Korea

Shopping Stores

For many years Vegetarians living in Korea needed to move heaven and earth to find what the needed to survive in. At first, that might seem impossible to believe since Korea embraces veggies at every meal including breakfast. However, many of the dishes that look veggie friendly on the outside turn out to be soaked in fish or meat broth or stock. Once you factor in vegans and their needs then you could just about forget about it.

Still, that was then and this is now. Over past few years options for Vegetarians and Vegans have grown. You have businesses like The Loving Hut, Vegetus, Sprout, Plant, MOGO as well as many spots offering Vegan/Vegetarian options on their menu. To that end there’s one more spot you can add to the list: Vegan Space.

Vegan Space is a new supermarket that has opened in HBC. This little shop, tucked away in the Haebangchon neighborhood of Itaewon, offers a bevy of goods such as soaps, teas, pickled veggies, nondairy milk, breads & cereals, tempeh, fermented drinks, condiments, and cruelty-free toiletries. It’s a small shop with a big goal: to provide sustainable goods and vegan products to the local area. Most often folks living in Korea resorted to online markets like G-market or I-Herb.

So, whether you’re a vegetarian, vegan or just vegan curious, Vegan Space welcomes all to come in and see what they are all about. You might find just what you didn’t know you needed.
