KMK: The Workshop

Food Restaurants

My Summer of Burgers continues with The Workshop! The Workshop has only been around the HBC neighborhood for a few years, yet it stands as one of the mainstays for locals to grab a beer and a bite after work. They enviously have an ideal spot just after the Kimchi pots on the start of the road that leads into HBC proper. It’s just the right location to draw in that sought after pedestrian traffic. The Workshop provides a smattering of outside seating for those bright sunny days as well as ample space within. On the screens you’ll find anything from a ruby or football match to the latest big draw boxing match. Grab a table and a menu and you’ll be sure to find something to your liking.

The Workshop offers the usual suspects when it comes to pub grub. The highlight of which focuses around their burgers. The royale with cheese combines sharp cheddar cheese with muenster along with crispy fried bacon. The Saffa, paying homage to the owners’s origins, puts a braai twist  by adding caramelized onions, sour creme, and biltong. The Federale doesn’t really do much for me. I love guacamole but not on my burger. And then there’s the Gorgonzola burger which is everything you imagine it to be: strong robust taste along with a curious tomato jam that matched well. Different, but good.

The folks at The Workshop also put on special weekend events like a Braii Plate BBQ. A mouth watering rib eye steak grilled to your liking, asparagus, chickpea salad potato wedges and homemade garlic bread. That’s tough to beat. There’s also a great rotation of events like cocktail happy hour every night six to seven pm. On Wednesday night you can dive into their selection of pies for Pie night. Friday night brings Wing Night with  buffalo, creamy cool, teriyaki, lemon pepper and bbq wings all ready to be devoured.
