KMK: Ferraro Frack Up

KmKorner Opinion
Now when the Obama finger wave starts headlining at the podium you know something big must be brewing in the big city. The focus of this particular finger pointing Geraldine Ferraro.

Ferraro holds the distinction of being the only female candidate for vice president on a big ticket campaign-she held the number two spot on the Mondale/Ferraro ticket back in 1984.
What could cause friendly, easy going, Barack Obama to set his finger wagging at this weathered but grandmotherly face of Geraldine?

Well, it most definitely has to do with these ungrandmotherly words that flew from her lips to the Daily Breeeze newspaper of Torrance, California:

“If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very
lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept.”

On second thought, I guess it is kind of grandmotherly-if your granmother happened to be a Grand Wizard of the white pointy hat variety. I josh and kid with the hyperbole, but truly she must be off her meds if doesn’t think there is anything wrong with that statement. She totally disregards the man’s academic, political, secular career history in favor of summing up his candidacy as lucky because he’s a black man.

Wow! Who knew being a black man in American was so lucky! Geraldine knew of course, because she said almost the exact same thing about Jesse Jasckson back in 1988 when she was quoted as saying that because of his “radical” views, “if Jesse Jackson were not black, he wouldn’t be in the race.”

I guess by Geraldine’s line of thinking Hillary wouldn’t be where she is if she were not a woman.

Stone age thinking like this doesn’t have a place in any political party. You would have thought that the Hillary Campaign would have immediately rebuked Geraldine for her comments and denounced her opinion, but only a mild reply came. Ferraro herself doesn’t even realize the import of her remarks and has retreated to saying that she’s being labelled a racist. Really? So far nothing I have read has said any such thing. From what I can tell her remarks are being called ignorant and devisive.

Geralidine is so busy trying to pin the race card on Obama that she’s blithely forgotten that she’s the only one waving the card around. Worse, she now cocoons herself in the notion that she’s somehow a victim because she’s white.

“Any time anybody does anything that in any way pulls this campaign down and says let’s address reality and the problems we’re facing in this world, you’re accused of being racist, so you have to shut up,” she told the Daily Breeze of
Torrance, California. “Racism works in two different directions. I really think
they’re attacking me because I’m white. How’s that?”

Blundering and babbling never went so well together. How can she even seriously consider her remarks genuine criticism? At best she doesn’t truly get why her words were so damaging and hurtful, at worst she’s trying to engineer some white blue collar backlash against the Obama campaign.

And where is Hillary during all this? Keith Olbermann sums it nicely:
