When you’re looking for a drink in Itaewon there’s no shortage of bars, clubs, and lounges to choose from. Fancy a game of darts? Bull & Barrel. Want to watch that soccer game? Sam Ryans. Got that Glamazon urge to scratch? Glam. Craving a Cuban with a glass of red? Burn. Yearning for old school Hip Hop? Venue. Jamaican dance hall itch to scratch? Zion. So you see, if you want it you can find it in Itaewon. And I’m happy to say that if you feel like getting a little gaming on while you drink you can finally do that as well at The Fountain.
When you first walk inside the towering Greco-Roman wall behind the bar sets the tone. The crumbling facade combined with the wall to wall video screens and the splashes of neon lights across the huge open space shouldn’t work, but it does. The clash of modern and archaic evokes a spellbinding dissonance that wraps you up into Fountain’s embrace readying you for the night to come. It’s gaudy in all the right ways. Personally, I couldn’t take my eyes of the Cube LED TV suspended from the high vaulted ceiling conjuring images of multi-dimensional PS4 gaming!
You see, the folks at The Fountain combined two of my favorite things: alcohol and gaming. Now you can sip away at cocktails, slam a shot, or chug that beer with not only your standard darts, but also arcade games, Foosball, darts, basketball, billiards and many, many more. It’s a true barcade in every sense of the word. And the games come at no additional cost. However, despite the plethora of gaming options the drinks themselves run the gamut of your usual finds: G&T, Rum & Coke, Martini, and so and so on. And all priced between 5,000 and 10,000 KRW. Frankly, a few more signature drinks would serve them well.
All in all The Fountain proves itself the perfect spot to go out with a gang of friends for a bit of fun. The main floor of the bar also slowly turns into a makeshift dance floor as the intoxication levels rise as the night unfolds.
