Sometimes, you know, a guy just wants to be pampered. Feet up, slouching in a comfy chair, face to face with a sweet pleasure so guilty that Fat Princess would take you down in a submission hold to devour it herself. Admittedly, that’s a dessert that’s near impossible to find in Seoul. I’m not talking about some bogus strumpet cupcake gussied up in fanciful colors that serve only to mask a mediocre dry cake. No, I’m talking about the holy grail of desserts. I even thought I came close, several, times, but I realize I was mistaken.
I’m speaking of sheer indulgence on a scale so primal you’ll swear it’s ambrosia fallen from the heavens. Hyperbole? Maybe. Though it’s all appropriate for the cafe and bakery Sugar Daddy. Who needs a silver haired fox with buckets of cash and an easy smile when you have a thick slice of pumpkin cheesecake, drizzled in caramel, teasing your taste buds? I don’t. You won’t either once you step foot inside this marvelous shop.
The folks at Sugar Daddy know that dessert should be an experience long before you taste it. Even if you step in eyes closed you’ll know you’re in the presence of true bakers. The scent of cinnamon, chocolate, nut meg and ginger mingles with the aroma of baking bread. The smells wafting past your nose will have your stomach grumbling while the dazzling presentation of crayola color cremes, adorning fruits and veggies water your eyes with beauty. The one two punch lures you to the countertop in a daze, wallet open, ready to make it rain for as many cakes, cookies and cupcakes you can carry.
Don’t believe me? Take a gander at Sugar Daddy’s Banana Chocolate cake. It’s a moist slice of deliciousness with a perfect balance of banana and chocolate. The portion size? Generous. You can easily share with a friend, but you’ll soon end up duelling with forks over who gets to take home the leftovers for later.
Then there’s the pumpkin cheesecake that’s so decadent and rich you’ll have to take your sweet time to finish and then follow it up with a beverage to wash it all down. Here’s where you must not repeat my mistake. I foolishly went for an americano while my friend, Veniese, chose the apple, orange, ginger, beet Juice. Sounds horrible, right? That’s what I thought, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. It’s sweet and tangy and complements the dessert. They juice it right there while you’re waiting so you know it’s fresh. Other drinks to try in the future are the apple and carrot as well as the apple, spinach, celery and lemon.
So, what are you waiting for? Get yourself over to Sugar Daddy and indulge. You deserve it, don’t you?
