KMK: Craftworks Taphouse

Food Restaurants

Beer lovers rejoice! There’s a new tap house in the Itaewon neighborhood. Craftworks Tap House may have just opened it’s door barely over a week ago, but already word is spreading.

Craftworks stands out from the crowd of pubs in Itaewon by brewing up their very own signature beers: Geumgang Mountain Dark Ale, Namsan Pure Pilsner, Baekdusan Hefeweizen, and Halla Mountain Golden Ale. Their beers are brewed by Kapa brewery in Gapyeong from fresh spring water. The Halla Mountain Golden Ale I tried proved to be smooth, light and refreshing and this is coming from someone who usually dislikes beer.

Also on hand are a selection of wines, cocktails, and liquors as well as a menu that rotates until they can settle upon a final decision. On the night my friends and I stopped by we ordered the Greek salad, pork stir fry, ribs,  and veggie mousaka. The ribs were well cooked and tasty, but needed more sauce. The stir fry had fresh vegetables, brown rice, and was good. The standout, however, was the veggie mousaka that had everyone wishing they ordered the same. Although, the fries accompanying the mousaka did have a tad too much salt.

Appetizers cost around 10,000 KRW and entrées hovered around 15,000 KRW. Beer drafts were 4,000KRW.

Besides the good food and beer the atmosphere at Craftworks also soars. There’s something homey and comfortable about the place. The low lighting and dark wood creates a relaxed vibe. There’s also an enclosed outside terrace that will be ideal in the summer months.

So, if you’re in the HBC, Itaewon, gyenidan area and need a place to kick back and relax with a brew, then Craftworks awaits.

The Good:

Beer that even I could love! Mouthwatering veggie mousaka! Great atmosphere!

The Bad:

A few hiccups due to being new. Prices could be a bit lower.

The Weird:

Craftworks is hidden behind other buildings accessible through a slender batmanlike skinny entranceway

  1. Maybe they used to be great when they first opened but if quality goes down as a place gets more recognized that is definitely TRUE for their food and more importantly, THEIR STAFF!!!

Went recently with friends but the food was poor quality and the service was awful. The beer and wine are decent so plan on only going for that..Be careful to venture much more on the future and don’t make a mistake in choosing what you order because they will not offer to help give advice about their own menu nor admit when they make mistakes. I heard some of the owners are rather customer friendly but the one that night was just terrible! Example of bad food: overpriced chicken poppers that gave me a gag reflex and the last few pieces were left on the plate because no one in the party wanted to finish it off.

    1. ***Be careful to venture much more *on the menu* (not future) and don’t make a mistake….

    2. I’ve been back and yeah you’re right it’s certainly dipped in terms of quality of food and service. It was packed. Maybe they need more staff to sort this out but whatever the case they should get back to basics.
