KMK: Cup & Bowl

Food Restaurants

Editor’s Note: Sadly Cup & Bowl is no more

You know, sometimes you just want to keep things nice and simple. Sure, an extravagant seven course meal at a fancy place with a hot shot chef dazzling the diners can be a treat, but at the same time something has to be said for the simple pleasures of a homemade bowl of soup and sandwich made out of love and affection.

That’s the kind of food you’ll find at Cup and Bowl, a newish restaurant in Itaewon, where the menu is crammed with fresh homemade goodness. There are freshly baked cookies, croissants, and scones on hand. Soups come in a trio of Provence vegetable, cream of mushroom, or sweet potato with maple ranging from 4,500 KRW to 7,000 KRW. Sandwiches include ham & emmental cheese on a croissant (5,000KRW), ham & provolone on multi-grain bread(7,500KRW) or sandwich with everything (9,000KRW). For an addtional 3,500 KRW french fries can be added.

Cup & Bowl also caters to the coffee and tea crowd but with a few notable twists. There’s a skakerato cream coffe, a soy latte, an espresso Romano with lemon along with real Belgian hot chocolate and chai lattes.

I went with the combo which included ham and emmental on a croissant with an Americano and bowl of vegetable soup for 12,000 KRW.  The soup was hearty, fresh, and filling. And I savored each bite of my croissant sandwich.

You might be surprised at the tiny space Cup & Bowl occupies but they overcome that by offering a 20% discount on their sandwiches if ordered to go. Now if they only add a chocolate croissant to the menu I will truly be in foodie bliss. Cup & Bowl, along with Goulash Soup and Bread in Hongdae, have become two tiny champs dishing out great food at reasonable prices.
