KMK: The Loving Hut

Food Restaurants

The Loving Hut may sound like some red light district scandalous establishment but I can testify that it’s nothing like that at all. The only sinful act going down happens to be gluttony which comes as a surprise to me since it’s an all vegan restaurant.

Now I’ve had vegetarian meals in the past. You know, a salad, of course, some rice and beans, maybe macaroni or some other pasta with some fruit thrown in for good measure. The thought of those meals were daunting enough to completely dissuade me from the notion that I would ever in my lifetime truly enjoy a vegan meal without thinking of what I was missing out on. Sure, I could eat vegetarian and vegan but trust me when I say that I was so self satisfied in my own carnivorous ways that never in a minute contemplated leaving meat much less cheese, milk, and yogurt behind.

That all changed after a visit to Loving Hut.

i never realized vegan dishes could taste so meaty. You see I love meat. I love the texture. I love the taste. And so color me astounded when I learned that Loving Hut served up dishes that so accurately mimicked the meat that I loved that I didn’t miss it. I’m talking about spicy mambo chicken wings made of mushrooms that tasted, felt, and looked like real chicken wings. I had soy protein spiced and cooked to taste like Mongolian beef that completely fooled my taste buds. Hong Kong style barbecue, again soy protein, tasted and looked just like the real thing.

If a meat lover like me could be satisfied then all you vegetarians and vegans will be in herbivore heaven. Loving Hut has locations in over twenty countries throughout the world. Here in South Korea they have restaurants in Daegu, ChungBuk-do, Seoul, JeonBuk-do, and Chungcheongnam-do.

Whichever branch you choose to visit I recommend one with a buffet. At the weekend buffet in Achasan there were so many dishes on hand that I couldn’t even make my way through all of them. Which gives me a reason to go back.

  1. I could tell you one "bad" thing, if you want. Unfermented soy is not healthy because it has lots of phytoestrogens that can mess with your endocrine system. Those soy based meat products also have lots of sodium. (I speak from experience as a former Seventh Day Adventist who spent 4+ years of her life living on stuff like that.

    1. Ah I guess it was too good to be true! The sodium part kills it for me. I\’m trying to eat a low salt diet. Grrr! I think low salt is harder than vegetarian here in korea! I guess you could steer clear of the meat cloned dishes and still eat healthy right?
