KMK: “I hate Korea, dad!”

Culture Lifestyle

The latest stir in the netisphere of Korea surrounds a teenage girl being attacked by an older woman on the subway. You can view the youtube video below at the bottom of the post. Done? Great.

First let me say that it’s hard to judge these things without knowing the full context. What happened before the video started? However, based on what I’ve seen I’d say that old lady needed someone on that train to grab her and pull her off that young girl.

An article on the incident from the Korea Times (blank stare) reports that onlookers say the girls muddy shoes stained the old woman’s clothes. The girl apologized, but the old woman wouldn’t let the matter drop. The girl then used foul language which set that old lady off wherein she began attacking the girl.

The girl could’ve just walked away. It probably would’ve worked. However, her actions or words in no way warranted that beat down. That old woman should be ashamed of herself. The girl then gets on the phone to her father and screams about how she hates Korea.

I’m still in shock that no one would even try to help her or at least separate the two. Towards the end of the video it does seem as if one passenger confronts the old lady, but too little too late.

What do you think? Did that girl have it coming or did that old lady step over the line.

I should file this under when Ajummas Attack.

    1. I think most subway cars do have CCTV. If not they always have the video that passenger shot! maybe that girl will get something going, but I doubt it.

  1. I have to totally agree with you. I actually talked about the incident with my students and raised the same concerns. Why didn’t anyone help? And, even if the girl was rude to the old lady, does it really warrant a beat down? The consensus in my class was that both parties were equally at fault, because the girl should be respectful to their elders. I guess, its a Korean state of mind….but I agree with you!

    1. What did they say about the people not helping? It was almost as if the entire event didn't happen except for the guy way at the end who had words for the lady way after the fact.

I wonder if the old lady will be publicly shamed by this event "attack lady" seems a good knick name.
