KMK: Seoul of Asian Art

Arts Museums

Billed as the Seoul of Asian contemporary Art my friend Ian and I went out to the exhibition in search of artistic beauty that expands the consciousness.

The gallery was a tiny places sidled up next to Cafe NoNo in Samcheon dong. Chung Sung Myung won my heart that day. His work is haunting, arresting, and completely unforgettable. He’s a story teller with a lyricism to his work that sings with no sound at all. He uses shadows and light to evoke emotions of fear, curiosity and wonder.

I’d seen a few of the other artists on display at different showings so there were no surprises other than Chung. Take a glimpse at his work and I bet you’ll be inspired as well.

  1. I've always been impressed with them, too…though wasn't familiar with Kara Walker's works until now! After reading your response, I checked her exhibits out on the net. Visually arresting for sure…life-size in-your-face mural depictions! Truly advant-garde!

    1. I adore the silhouettes! They remind me, vaguely, of the african american silhouettes done by Kara Walker though hers are a lot more arresting.
