The other day the 17th voyage to the international space station blasted off from Kazakhstan. South Korea cheered and applauded as they watched on a big screen in front of City Hall because on that rocket ship is one of their own. Twenty nine year old Yi So Yeon, a bioengineer, became the first Korean in space when she replaced Ko San, an expert in artificial intelligence, who removed sensitve training manuals.

While in space Yi So Yeong has promised to cook her crew mates a Korean meal and sing them a special song. Why is it that she’s up their cooking and entertaining? This isn’t Ajumma in Space looking for a husband. I hope those two cosmonauts plan on returning the favor and sing her a few Russian ballads while they cook up some Russian dishes. Though, for the life of me, I can’t think of a single delicious Russian meal so maybe she’s got the right idea about serving up Korean food.
Lets wish Yi So Yeon well and hope she makes the most of the trip and gets home safely.
