KMK: Pepero Day

Culture Lifestyle

This Sunday November 11th is Pepero Day in Korea. It’s not an official Holiday, but one of those ingeniously made up holidays engineered by Corporate honchos sitting in their sky high towers devising new ways to get money out of our pockets. Much like Sweety’s day back in the United States, Pepero day is about love and friendship all shown through the act of giving away Pepero Chocolate.

If you haven’t seen a Pepero it’s a long thin cookie wafer dipped, halfway, in either regular chocolate or chocolate with almonds. You can find Pepero in grocery stores and convenience stores alike. Just walk into a store and you’re likely to see a display of Pepero just waiting to leap into your cart or basket.

The kids at school always munch on Pepero, but I don’t really care that much for them. They’re good, but not so fantastic that you simply must go out and buy some, unless of course it’s Pepero day and you need to shell them out to show your students that you care. Darn you, evil marketing geniuses!

So don’t forget to get your Pepero on before it’s too late!
