KMK: Al Matto

Food Restaurants

Al Matto is one of the lastest new spots to arrive in HBC. It’s been a few months since it opened and I’ve been several times. It’s just up the road from Jacoby’s next to DeExpresso Coffee. It’s a small intimate restaurant that does it best to maximize the space between the dining area, bar, and kitchen.

Their breakfast menu includes a self named dish that includes french toast, bacon, sausage, fried egg, beans, hash browns, grilled mushrooms and tomatoes. They also serve pancakes and a veggie omelet. Salads include chicken, salmon and feta cheese, poached egg with Gorgonzola, and a Caprese.

A quintuplet of sandwichs  like the Al Matto Pita Pillis (beef, onion, mushrooms, cheddar cheese wrapped in pizza bread), Al Matto Panini (Trevia Ciabatta, onion, tomato, ham, rucola, sausage), Bagel with Smoked Salmon, Quesadilla and a Veggie Wrap.

Pizzas and Pastas hit all the standard marks with everything from Margherita, Four Cheese, Calzones to Seafood Spaghetti, Cream Cheese with Chicken, Basil Pesto and Lasagna.

I have to say that the first week Al Matto opened it was an outstanding experience. However in the following weeks the menu was slashed and the quality took a nose dive. It’s still an ok place, but it went from great to average. The breakfast remains a steadfast deal, but really you should go to Al Matto, now, for one reason: The drinks.

The bartenders whip up so truly amazing and oh so tasty drinks. I’m talking about fresh blueberry Margaritas, Mojitos with the minty tang of a Caribbean adventure and Caipirinhas that could have been served up in any bar in Bahia! Go with a small group of friends or a dish to snack on and share and then sample those drinks.

  1. I only eat and willing to pay for chilli fries and the cook’s hygiene is very questionable.
