Yeouido Park is near the Han River. You can easily find the park by going to Yeoinaru subway station on line five and taking exit two. Yeouido is the perfect spot to spend the day, especially in the summer, and even still now in the autumn.
This time of year the park is truly beautiful. The grass is a golden carpet. The trees have surrendered the green and turned toward the burnished golds, oranges, and dusky reds of autumn. The Han river was a deep blue peaceful ribbon of water. There was a brisk wind, but the sun was shining and it was a great day to be out.
We weren’t the only ones enjoying the day either. Friends hung out on picnic blankets playing cards and eating lunch. Old couples strolled along hand in hand. Women sat on benches, chatting with each other and on cell phones. Old men flew kites overhead and children ran around chasing each other. It was like a Korean Norman Rockwell painting.
We ventured to the park ourselves to celebrate Ryan’s birthday. We brought food and drinks, music, and a croquet set. So we listened to New Zeland dub music and whittled away the afternoon playing boozy croquet. Which was great since I was so bad at it that the booze really made it fun.
The weather is still quite nice if you want to head down there yourself. It’s getting a bit nippy, but I think there is still a good week or two left to be had down by the river if the sun is out shining. Just in case I’m wrong pack your mittens and scarves and jackets.
