KMK: Marriage Hot Spot

Culture Lifestyle
Thinking of asking that special someone the big question? No, I’m not talking about boxers or briefs. I’m speaking of the big M. If so then boy do I have the perfect spot for you. In the Korean Times I read about how the Seoul Metropolitan Government has christened a special spot on the Cheonggye Stream Walkway as a “marriage proposal wall.” How romantic, right? I guess if you can’t have the Great Wall the Marriage Proposal Wall is the next best thing. Yeah, the name does need tweaking, but it’s the thought that counts.
Now, future divorcees can create their very own magic movie moment when they propose. The marriage spot is on the dumul bridge, which crosses the stream and is equipped with a big screen backdrop, lights, and speakers all to broadcast your proposal for the whole world to see. I bet the passerby and people who work in the area will be thrilled. Well, maybe they will be thrilled for the first fifty proposals, but I’m sure it will get old fast. I’m hoping it will turn into a huge spectacle with people heckling the couples with, “He’s type B, girl, don’t do it!”
The marriage proposal spot was created to increase foreign tourism to the stream walkway. Nothing says tourism in Korea like flashy engagement locations, right? I don’t see much of a foreign market here, but I’m sure the Koreans will eat it up like kimchi. If you want to have your magic moment at the stream be sure to first schedule an appointment with the city by calling 02 3707-9414 or by going to their website at Seoul.go.kr because nothing says romance like an appointment and a long que.

I joke, but I think its a really cool Korean thing to do. I’m going to book my appointment as soon as I can!
