KMK: Mogo Delivery Meal Kits

Food Victuals

One of the challenges of living alone and coming home from a long day is figuring out what to do about dinner. There’s only so many times you can go out to eat or order takeout before your wallet starts feeling the burn. Sure, being in Korea means you can find super cheap Korean meals, but really, how many times can you eat Kimchi Bokeumbap or jjigae before you start cringing at the mere thought of it? The same rote dishes definitely begin to wear you down.

Cook at home you say? True, enough. Though you have to go out and do the shopping. After a long day at work sometimes you just don’t want to be bothered. That’s not even taking into account you may be not so skillful cooking abilities. So what’s a guy to do? Don’t worry. The folks at Mogo have you covered with their healthy meal kit delivery service. The team at Mogo was kind enough to provide me with two kits to try out.

The meal kits arrived neatly packaged. Each ingredient was labelled clearly and sealed. Each meal kit also contained an easy to read set of directions that included a pic of each ingredient just so you know what you’re working with. The directions come in both Korean and English.

For my first Mogo meal I started with the Red Pepper Mac and Cheese. Mac and Cheese has always been a favorite comfort food of mine so I couldn’t wait to get started. I made sure to pop the cheese and milk that came with the kit into the fridge as soon as I received my meals. You should be sure to do the same with any meal kit that contains perishables. Throwing everything together and following the directions proved to be simple. Everything is already measured and ready to go. I mixed, boiled, and combined everything in about twelve minutes. On a whim I decided to add a chicken breast I had already grilled and diced the previous day. I’m definitely too much of a carnivore. The dish turned out pretty good: Cheesy goodness with just a kick of spice. And all with minimal mess! Home run.

The next night I went with the second dish: Thai Coconut Curry Soup. This time I followed the directions on the website as the card had some kind of misprint error. The steps were just as easy as the Mac and Cheese. After about twenty five minutes of getting everything right I had my soup waiting to be devoured. The process was a bit more involved than the Mac and Cheese but still relatively painless and quick. I added sliced cucumbers and carrots for more texture. I also threw in some red peppers I had. The end result ended up being flavorful and filling with a tangy kick on the tongue. The Thai curry  definitely proved to be my favorite between the two meal kits.

If Thai Curry and Mac N Cheese aren’t enough some other options include:

AUTHENTIC CORN TORTILLA TACOS
CINCINNATI SPAGHETTI
CRANBERRY PUMPKIN RISOTTO
LEMON POPPY PANCAKES
TEXAS CHILI

The Good:

Quick and easy with no fuss or muss. Tasty and not time consuming.

The Bad:

You must add your own fresh veggies and meat if you don’t want to deal with vegetarian only.

The Weird:

Himalayan Sea Salt!

  1. I’ve been meaning to try this for a while. I’m going through a major cooking phase after my doctor ordered me to start consuming more protein immediately! It’s a shame that MOGO is vegetarian! I’m gonna share this post with a few friends that may find this service useful.^^

    1. The best part of them being vegetarian is that I can add chicken or whatever meat easily. 🙂 I wish I could be vegetarian, well, not really!

  2. I can definitely see myself try the Thai soup and comparing the vegetarian vs the non-vegetarian versions of preparation. How many servings would you get for the 7,000-12,000 you spend!?

  3. I have a Mogo gift check I wasn’t able to use. HUHUHU! I didn’t realize it would be this cool. It’s good that you can prepare the meal in just few minutes. The labels are good as well! I guess Mogo’s target consumers are foreigners living alone.

  4. I really like this idea. I totally feel you on cooking for yourself. I was in the same boat when I was teaching over in Korea. As someone who spent some time in Thailand, I completely understand why Thai curry would be your favorite. SO bomb. Nice piece of writing man!

  5. Cool idea. I’ve never heard of this but may find myself tempted to check it out. I can certainly relate to *kind of* wanting to cook but not wanting to deal with all that entails.

Have to say, Cincinnati spaghetti sounds like a candidate for “The Weird”.
