Over the past year I’ve heard great things about Chili King. I’m glad to report back that it definitely lives up to all the hype. This burger/hot dog joint in the belly of Itaewon may be small but it packs a big punch when it comes to taste.
Right off the bat I should mention that Chili King is a bit hard to find. It’s down one of the back streets that’s a little ways off from the main drag of establishments behind the Hamilton Hotel. It’s on the same street as OK2 Kitchen and its next door to The Loving Hut and Patisserie Michot. So it’s definitely in good company.
Owner and cook Kevin Cyr keeps the menu at Chili King pretty simple. On one side you’ve got burgers. Cheeseburgers, Chili Burgers, the rise and shine with bacon and egg, Bacon Cheddar Burgers (my favorite), the Big Kahuna with pineapple, Jalapeno Ranch Burgers and then there are the Big and King Kev with two and three patties respectively. Those are house specialties that will probably put you one step closer to a heart attack.
Kevin also has sandwiches covered. The menu boasts everything from a simple BLT to the Super Club, Sloppy Joe, Meatball Sub, and even a Canadian special called a Donair with beef, herbs, spices, veggies and garlic sauce all wrapped in a pita. Hot dogs round out the food options. You can get your dog with chili (of course), cheese, kraut, relish, grilled onions, and spicy mustard.
All burgers, sandwiches, and hot dogs come with fries and coleslaw. You can upgrade to chili fries or poutine for 2,000KRW extra. Or you can order up side dishes of the chili, fries, or coleslaw.
To top all that Kevin even makes his own sauces. The hot sauce, emphasis on hot, goes great with the chili fries and the Ranch! Lets just say his Ranch made me a convert into actually putting it on fries, before I was a straight up Ketchup man.

I do not understand the hype about this place…I posted a review.
Hi Brian!
Thanks for the writeup. I’ve been dying to try this place out.
Oh, but I think the owner’s surname is Cyr. 😉
Cheers!
Thanks for spotting that! A fix is on the way right now.
