KMK: Love Star

Bars Nightlife Queer

Going out in Jongno requires determination, grit, and a steady resolve. First, it’s a warren of twisty narrow streets and back alley ways that crisscross and zig zag in every way imaginable. It’s easy to get lost even if you know exactly where the place you’re going is.  Then you have to deal with the lack of English signage. Sure, sometimes you’ll get lucky if the name of the bar you’re after is in English but often the sign itself might be in some weird spot or obscure angle and only visible if you stand on your tippy toes and crane your neck backwards. Lastly you have to face the dearth of foreigners and lack of English speakers. Don’t count on anyone being able to point you in the right direction.

Of course you can toss all of that out the window if your Korean is passable.

In any case all its not lost for the Korean Impaired foreigner in Jongo. There are a handful of bars that are accessible like Bar Code, Shortbus, and best of all: Love Star. It’s a hip cocktail bar with a stylish interior, fantastic drinks, and a modern edge that’s perfect for a group of friends to get together and chat or for a more intimate outing for that hot Friday night date.

Drinks are reasonably priced. All of the standard cocktails are on hand as well as more hard to come by drinks like mojitos. Beer too is of course on hand. They also serve light bar snacks.

The Good:

Chill cocktail bar with great ambiance, style and drinks.

The Bad:

It’s not that big so if you go on a weekend night you may wait to get a table.

The Weird:

They play nineties music videos on the big screen like George Michael but the music is actually up to date and current. And though everyone is welcome did I mention it’s a bear bar? Bring your traps and you may get lucky and bag one to take home.
