During the days of September tenth to the fifteenth the Korean International Art Fair touched down in Seoul. The fair encompassed the work from over 193 galleries from around the world boasting an amazing 5,000 pieces of art from 16 different nations. The works in question include those produced by up and coming artists as well as established artists known throughout the world. The COEX convention hall played host for the show and every inch of the sprawling space was in use.
The show also hosted a guest country program this year featuring the work of British contemporary artists. In the past other guest countries included Germany, Spain, Japan, Switzerland, India, and France. This year the theme focused on the British Contemporary art in the midst of changing paradigms. Also included in the special additions to the fair are the Kids in KIAF program which focuses on finding ways of inclusion for the kids who attend the fair. There was also a special Korean Media art exhibition featuring artists like Jeon Joon-ho and Park Hyun-ki.
The Good:
The fair had it’s share of photos, paintings, sculpture, and media art installations. They only thing missing was the live human interpretative living statue art.
The Bad:
There was literally art crammed in every nook and cranny of the convention center. No minute space was left unadorned by a statue, photo, painting, or media installation. It became a little overwhelming.
The Weird:
The projection of a face on a odd angle sculpture which makes it seem as if its talking.
