Glass Castle

KMK: Jeju Island | Glass Castle

Korea Nature Travel

Ian wasn’t so sure about the Glass Castle in Jeju. He thought it might be a waste of time. He should’ve known after the Trick Art Museum to have a little faith. Maybe he expected a glass collection of old coke bottles or something, but no matter the case he ended up pleasantly surprised.

Walking into the glass castle in Jeju is like wandering into a shimmering wonderland. From the first moment of stepping inside you’re presented with a towering recreation of the beanstalk from the beloved old fairy tale only bespectacled with colorful sparkling pieces of glass. Unexpected and mesmerizing definitely would be an understatement.

The glass castle can be explored both outside in the theme park like exhibits as well as inside the modern museum center. We started outside, coming face to face with a waterfall of water and glass that led to a path designed to delight and impress visitors. A mirror maze, a scrim tunnel covered with glimmering glass vines, fantastical fairy tale elements rendered in glass, glass tangerine oranges, Christmas ornaments, and even a giant sized teddy bear will have you smiling as you make your way through the park.

Inside the center you’ll come across masterpieces from around the world. Works of designers from Italy, Chezh Republic, and Japan have found a home at the glass castle. You’ll see a stained glass village, as well as various works of art that border on the sublime. Of course it’s all behind glass because the many children around might be too tempted by all the pretty shiny things. The center also has a neon blue mirror maze that proved to be an ideal spot for a photo op.

No sightseeing spot would be complete without a souvenir shop. The glass castle gives you everything you might want in the way of glass artistry and more by offering lessons with an onsite glass blower. You can give it a go and pay according to what you want to make or if you just want to blow the glass.

If you’re in Jeju do not miss this place.
