The Seoul Festival of Lights continues with the World Design Capital Seoul Story event being held at Seoul Plaza in front of City Hall. The entire installation celebrates Seoul being selected as the 2010 World Design Capital. Cultural and design aspects of Seoul are highlighted.
Part of the exhibit featured the colors of Seoul. These colors were selected because they best reflected the spirit of the city and the citizenry. Some of the colors include Seoul Red, Seoul Orange, Seoul Light Gray, and Seoul Blue. You get the picture.
This 3D cube proved to be a highlight for me. At night it’s supposed to be spectacular but I haven’t been back yet to check it out. A British Korean tour guide showed Ian and I around. Here we stopped in front of a sign made from the New Year wishes of visitors. We even filled out our own hopes for the new year.
Another section of the exhibit features a huge interactive map of Seoul. Just touch the screen and scroll or tap your way across the city or zoom in to your favorite neighborhood.
The Seoul City government held a worldwide competition for the redesign of the city hall building. Dozens upon dozens of firms entered but the winning entry is displayed above. You can also check out their competition as well. The winning design incorporates aspects of traditional Korean architecture along with a forward futuristic approach. I don’t much care for it. I don’t feel it blends with the original structure which will be still standing. What do you think?
You can also take photos at famous Seoul landmarks via the green screen room set up. All in all it’s a good way to spend an afternoon. Be sure to check out the entire circuit if you have the time and inclination.
