Also in Nampodong is the hillside escalator. It’s actually a series of several escalators that leads up to Yongdusan Park. Think of Yongdusan as the Southern Seaside Namsan of Busan. The towering hill doesn’t quite match the massiveness of Namsan in Seoul but it gives it a good try. Yongdusan, also called “Dragon Head Hill after the Dragon Statue prominently on display, provides a great green escape for the people of Busan.
Families picnic on the grass, couples stroll along the pathways, and elderly gents play games of what I think its backgammon. It’s their own green oasis.
Yongdusan even features there own tower. Busan Tower stands over 118 meters above sea level. Outside of the tower entrance you can find legions of pigeons swarming the people out feeding them. It’s 4,000won to go up to the top of the tower. The view is fantastic, but the glass makes it hard to get a good shot without glare ruining the photo. Still, it’s definitely worth it to see the lay of the land from so far above.
There’s also a little gift shop and museum, a pavilion, and several statues to notable Korean military leaders.
wow these are some great pictures.
