For three summers now I’ve made thetrip to Daechon Beach in July to take part in the mudfest festivities. After two glorious weekends I guess the inevitable had to happen. This year the typcially blue sunny skiy transformed into a bleak sky filled with meancing storm clouds.
As soon as we arrived on our Adventure Korea bus we knew were in for a sodden time. Unlike last year with Adventuer Korea, this time we decided to participate in the basic training activities. I guess decided would be the wrong word since we didn’t really have a choice as the bus drove right by the hotels and straight to the mud flats where the obstacle course would take place.
I’m glad we did it. The mud flats are awesome. Stark gloomy scrape of land where walking across could lead to a sinkhole thigh deep. It was here that the boys and girls were divided into teams and under the direction of “army” sergeants commenced the great mud games. The girls threw themselves into a sort of hybrid soccer rugby type of match where they swung, punched, tackled and practically murdered each other to get a ball. The guys moshed in a rubber ring of mud in an enthused game of king of the hill.
Once we got to the hotel the sky opened up and rain poured from above in such torrential buckets that any mud covered paserby were washed clean in seconds. This lasted all day and night. Not that it hampered the festival goers in the least. Nope, the rain only seemed to increase the frenetic pace people romped and froliced in the mud. Half naked nubile bodies searmed each other in the mud pit while others slipped and slid along the mud caked sidewalks.
Despite teh rain I still had a blast at mudfest. It’s all about spending time with your friends strolling the boarwakl and feasting on shellfish and swapping stories. A notable hightlight happened to be a midnight romp through the rain. So, if you haven’t been to mudfest yet you’re missing out on some good dirty fun.
