On the lookout for different and exciting diversions I came across the Queen Savahba memorial institute otherwise known as the snake farm. Established in 1923 the snake farm became the second such establishment in the known world to provide vaccinations to poisonous snake bites. They continue that service today, preparing ant venom for some of the world’s most notoriously poisonous snakes.
They have a daily milking, but I arrived too late to watch. Instead I caught the snake handling act wherein several workers bring out snakes each more deadly than the last. Meanwhile, a guide explains exactly how long you would suffer and die after a bite. The snake farm gives you morbid fun at its best!
The beasties ranged from King Cobras to some humdrum grass snake but the handlers manhandled those snakes as if they were rubber instead of flesh, bone and deadly poison. All that separated them from a painful bite were quick reflexes and thick rubber boots.
The snake farm was very close to my hotel which turned out to be a good thing otherwise I don’t think I would have gone.
