So, dear readers, when we last were together we were walking along the craggy Haeundae Beach coastline. Well, from there the walkway led to a tiny itsy bitsy lighthouse. The lighthouse looks out over a spectacular view that includes the Nurimaru APEC House.
It’s a building that looks like it was ripped right out of a James Bond Movie. If they’re no longer using it for summits may I be the first to suggest turning it into a hotel or even more preferably my apartment? Nuri means world and Maru means summit in Korean. It was the site of a 2005 world economic summit.
The APEC House happened to be closed, but I can attest that the grounds were beautifully kept. I was tempted to jump the little gate to get a closer look, but my better nature prevailed. Further down the street leads to the Harbor where shiny towering condos pierce the sky. These buildings blend together in harmony as if in testament to a dignified nature of wealth and privilege.
However, right smack in the middle of all that sedateness stands a towering golden spire championing what I like to call the “fuck you, I’m rich” living condition. You just know the neighbors of the other buildings walk by thinking “pretentious assholes.”
Still, it is a pretty building even if it’s in your face making your head hurt from the gleam.
i think the translation is flipped : "nari" means summit and "maru" means world. great blog!
