So on Sunday I caught the second day of the Gangnam Fashion Festival. The third day is today, but I think I will have to skip it. However, Sunday definitely was the highlight of my weekend.
The festivities started at 11 but I arrived around 11:30. It all took place in an area of Apgujeong I had never been to before. As I was walking toward the venue I kept thinking that I was lost. I stuck with my directions though and sure enough a few blocks later I stumbled upon Fashion Street where the festival was being held.
The first thing I did was pick up a Fashion Bag for 1,000won. This bag let the vendors who had free things to give away know that it was okay to give those free things to me since I had one of those magic Fashion Bags. Did I mention you could decorate your bag with colorful ink stamps? You could. I did. My bag came out a rainbow of fruits, flowers and stars.
Along the street the vendors had their booths set up one after the other for the entire length of the street. It was fantastic. Designers and boutiques and organizations from across Seoul came together to advertise their programs, highlight their stores, and of course sell their stuff!
I have to admit that there were tons of things I wanted to buy, but none of it would fit. Even the things that would fit would probably shrink after the first washing leaving me no course but to hand it over to a friend.
So I dutifully played window shopper while my friends Jodie, Erin, and Sarah went on a power shopping spree. I didn’t mind. Especially since my window shopping invariably included some eye candy out and about in their fitted jeans and clingy T-shirts.
Some of the vendors also sold jewelry but I’m not really big on that. I barely like wearing a watch and rings and necklaces just aren’t my thing. That didn’t stop the sea of other people though. They were scooping up every sparkly nugget of jewelry like kids on a treasure hunt.
We ended the evening with drinks and dinner at A story. All in all it was a fabulous day well spent with friends. Kudos Gangnam Fashion Festival, when is the next event?
