Alia Sabur has just become the youngest professor in the world. Her appointment to Konkuk University in Seoul has also given her a spot in the world guiness book of records.
The self proclaimed “girl genius” spotted the job opportunity on the Internet. She applied and despite not finishing her thesis and not having a body of work of any distinction she has landed the position. The university notes that her young age and impressive accomplishments are merit enough.
At 14 she earned her BA and then went on to Drexel University to study Nano materials in a master’s adn docotral program. She’s been a media darling back in the states and looks forward to her new challenge in Korea.
Korea isn’t exactly the most gender friendly place. I hope the “girl genius” can come and stake her place without any setbacks.
What do you think? Should her age trump the usual necessary experience and credentials? Is she legitmate or is this a news making publicity stunt for the University?
