It’s Extreme Makeover time for Korea as newly minted President Lee calls in his team of aesthetes to beautify Seoul and, oh yeah, the rest of Korea too. You can read it about it Here on the Chosun.
According to lawmaker Maeng Hyung-kyu, who heads the presidential Transition Committee’s subcommittee for planning and coordination, “Design Korea” project is “aimed at seeking harmony and balance in urban areas and buildings by introducing the concept of public design.”
Well, with all those committees and subcommittees and sub-subcommittees I expect big things from this project. If you’ve been around the site you know I love public art and I think it will be fantastic to push it even further. I can’t wait to see which international architects are chosen to start designing buildings for the city. I’m personally hoping for some futuristic cyber-goth skyscrapers.
When I first read the title of Beautifying Korea I thought President Lee would be giving Makeovers for the foreign fashion impaired. I mean, my wardrobe could use a stylish Koreanization especially when I compare my 7-11 run attire to the fashion mavens who come in to buy juice.
