City Hall with the imposing clock tower is now playing host to an ice skating rink in the Seoul Plaza out front. Surrounding the ice rink is part of the Lucevista light show also known as the “crown of lights”. The light festival depicts winter holiday scenes of whimsy and romance. At night it lights up Seoul Plaza like star in the night. The light show continues along the Cheonggyecheon river walkway and I’ll post about that later.
The night at City Hall was truly bone chillingly cold. My hands were numb even with gloves on. However, the winter weather didn’t detract from the beauty or the fun. The huge Christmas tree was spectacular even with the peculiar ornament at the top. No star or santa for this tree, nope, they put the Christ back in Christmas with that tree topper.
Countless people stuffed the ice rink. Children, teens and adults all circled that rink with faces shining with delight and merriment. It was fun just watching and watching was all I could do considering that a size 16 skate just wasn’t happening. Though I have to confess that half the fun and excitement of watching was the suspense of anticipating someone’s sill onto the ice and the crazy antics to avoid being stampeded by the circling horde.
The Hi Seoul mascots were out in force and this guy was all charm. I’m not exactly sure what he’s supposed to be though; a mutant squirrel? Cute though.
There is a wall display depicting the Seoul skyline which is made up of a little individual photos. It really is a cool effect.
If you get a chance go down to City Hall. The Lucevista festival will be there till January 6th, 2008 and the ice rink lasts till February 10th between 10 am to 10pm. before January 6.
