Tonight I just learned about the The Great Battle of Hansan Festival! The event celebrates the Admiral Lee Sun Sin’s victory over the Japanese Navy in 1592. It’s considered one of the great naval battles in world history and during the festival there is a re-enactment commemorating the occasion.
The festival takes place in Tongyeong, which is a coastal town with about 151 islands surrounding the coastline. The area is supposed to be supremely beautiful with lots of sights to see like an underwater tunnel, live sea market, outdoor performances as well as water sports like motor boating, canoes, wind surfing and water skiing.
I’m just thrilled about seeing the reenactment of the Korean Navy battle and to make it better they’re also reeanacting the acient military service examinations the men had to endure.
It all sounds like a blast, but just like mud fest its happening sort of last minute. Hopefully getting a hotel will be easier.
