KMK: Cambodia – Phnom Pehn to Siem Reap

International Travel

In the morning we checked out of our hotel and jumped into the tuk tuks which whisked us away to the river to head from Phnom Pehn to Siem Reap.

We had booked passage on a 7am river boat departing from Phnom Pehn and arriving in Siem Reap six hours later. The cost was 25 US dollars which doesn’t sound expensive until you compare it to the 6 dollar deluxe bus. Of course the bus couldn’t offer the same spectacular views on the winding river and lake.

The boat was packed with every seat filled. I spent most of my time on the deck enjoying the sights passing by and the cool breeze. We passed fisherman casting nets and checking for their daily catch.

Needing a break from dozing or reading the others joined me on the top of the boat.
At one point we left the river and ventured into the lake proper. Once there it wasn’t much to see but mile after mile of sea.

When we arrived in Siem Reap we sailed through a cluster of houses and barges floating atop the water. We disembarked and ran into the tuk tuk drivers who had been alerted to our arrival by our drivers back in Phnom Pehn.

Next time Siem Reap and the wonders of Angkor Watt!

To be continued!

  1. Ouch! Amanda, you’re so danger prone! And here I was going to invite you to go shark diving in Thailand this winter break!

  2. I remember that boat well. Did you know you can sunburn the bottoms of your feet? You sure can if you dangle them off a boat, shoeless, for 8 hours. That will go down as my second worst burn ever.
