National Museum of Korea

Google Buzz

A couple of weekends ago I went with a few friends to check out the National Museum of Korea. First of all the museum is located on line four at Ichon station practically smack dab around the corner from Itewon.

Stepping on the Museum grounds, I couldn’t believe I was in one of the busiest areas of the city. The museum itself is a terrific design that deviates from all the towering apartment skyscrapers in the distance.

The musem houses permanent exhibitions with rooms after rooms of pottery, crude tools, old relics as well as ceramics and a dizzingly array of the history of hangul. And that was only the first floor. Two more floors await my exploration, but they will have to wait for another day.
I did my best to take shots of the more interesting pieces in the museum. There were some beautiful woodwork, carvings, royal jewelry as well as the White Tiger exhibit which was the highlight of the trip.

The Guardian Deity of The West, The White Tiger, was the most impressive exhibit on display.

The exhibition shows various images of baekho collected from Ssangyeongchong (Tomb of Double Columns), Suryeopchong (Tomb of Hunting Scene), the Jinpari Tomb
No. 1 and the Great Gangseo Tomb.
