KMK: Food Delivery Apps

Seoul is a city of convenience. Many corner stores and coffee houses stay open twenty four hours a day. Movie theaters allow allow you choose your seats. You can even push the buttons in the elevator again to deselect a floor that was inadvertently pushed. So you can imagine that when it comes to eating that this city offers a deluge of speedy delivery options.

Unfortunately, most of those happen to be all in Korean. Five years ago I wrote a quick post about where to order delivery from several Western fast food places. As you can imagine, the times have changed.  Now with the rampant onslaught of iphones and androids the apps have entered the picture as well as English based services that help bring the food right to your door.

Bird Riders

Similar to Y-not takeout, Bird Riders offers easy home delivery for English speakers looking for Western takeout. All you have to do is register with their site, entering your address and phone number. once you select your neighborhood they cleverly offer delivery from nearby restaurants as well as those further and further away. The delivery price increases for restaurants further away from your home. The good thing here is that they service a greater number of neighborhoods in Seoul. NOW TURNED INTO SHUTTLE

Shuttle Delivery

Shuttle Delivery is the baby of the Y-not Takeout and Bird Riders crews coming together to make one big family. Download the app and get ready to order up the best local food in the surrounding neighborhood!

Korea Bites

Not really an app or even using kakao, but they do give a ton of info on restaurant locations by subway line.

Mango Plate

It’s a mobile app, and it aims to help you discover more places to ear and better places to eat. Discovery is streamlined into one place – the restaurant feed. Because MangoPlate is tied into Facebook, users can see where their friends are eating and what they think of the place. They can upload pictures, and review restaurants.

Now on to the Korean delivery apps conveniently serving up a way to get that food straight into your mouth though getting past the language barrier might be a bit of a hurdle if you don’t have any Korean skills at all. However if you do then check out:

배달의민족  (Baedari-Minjok) is on Iphone & android and it’s free! You order online using the app and search for nearby restuarants. Pay by credit card.

YogiYo, is a Korean app that’s more user friendly for English speaking users. It’s easy to navigate with the restaurants being categorized by food type (Chinese, Korean, Etc). If the place has a little lightning bolt next to them you can message, otherwise you have to call them. You can pay by cash or credit card.
