KMK: 19th KoreaTESOL International Conference

Teach

On October 15-16, KOTESOL will host the 19th KOTESOL International Conference at Sookmyung Women’s University in Seoul. It is Korea’s largest English language teaching conference. Over 1,500 people are expected to attend the conference over the two days.

“Pushing Our Paradigms: Connecting with Culture” is the conference theme, and we have invited speakers that will challenge our current beliefs, and present a fresh perspective on ELT.  The second part is the underlying theme: understanding cultural context, understanding culture, and teaching to culture.  Finally, we want to explore and discuss technology in the classroom.  The conference will host internationally acclaimed speakers Stephen Krashen, B. Kumaravadivelu, Keith Folse and many others. They will offer insights into the latest teaching techniques, theories, and research.

The conference will be a forum for educators to share their ideas, innovations, experiences, and research findings in the global context. More than a dozen world-renowned speakers and 120 presenters will enlighten us on the future directions of the profession and on cutting-edge techniques in the age of English as a “global language.”

There will also be a number of cultural events and shows held during the conference. Suji’s will provide on-site lunch options for conference attendees.

KOTESOL is as an inclusive association of educators dedicated to developing the English language teaching profession. KOTESOL is a not-for-profit association. It is managed by volunteers throughout Korea and includes educators from a variety of backgrounds and nationalities. It was founded in 1992 “to promote scholarship, disseminate information, and facilitate cross-cultural understanding among persons concerned with the teaching and learning of English in Korea.”

Those wishing to attend the conference are advised to arrive early to avoid queues on the day. Pre-registration attendance fee is 40,000 won for KOTESOL members, 65,000 won for non-members and 25,000 won for undergraduate students. This includes both Saturday and Sunday.
