KMK: ParaDive 35

Lifestyle Sports

As someone who has always felt more comfortable on solid ground, the thought of diving into the depths of a swimming pool can be intimidating. So when I heard about Paradive35 in South Korea, Asia’s deepest indoor dive swimming pool, my curiosity was piqued. Could this be an experience for non-swimmers like me as well as mermen like my buddy Cam? Yes and No! Still, no matter the state of your swimming ability, Paradive3 offers a unique experience.

Paradive35 is located about an hour outside of the capital, Seoul, in a modern facility that is easy to find. The building itself is sleek and state-of-the-art, standing out amidst the natural beauty of its surroundings. Upon entering, I was struck by the cleanliness and professionalism of the place. The reception area was bustling with excited divers and friendly staff, making it clear that this was a premier destination for underwater adventures.

The staff at Paradive35 were exceptionally welcoming and gregarious, immediately putting me at ease despite my nonexistent swimming skills. They provided a thorough overview of the facility and what to expect, ensuring that all my fears for my buddy’s safety, not mine because I was no way getting into that underwater deathtrap, were answered. This initial interaction was crucial in helping me feel more comfortable about my friend’s impending watery demise.

Paradive35 offers a guided tour of its impressive facilities, which I found fascinating. The lobby features large viewing panels where you can watch divers navigate the depths of the pool. For someone who doesn’t swim, this was a great way to observe the activities without getting wet. The changing rooms were spacious and well-equipped, with large lockers and pristine shower facilities. There is also a rooftop sun deck for relaxation.

Of course, the highlight of Paradive35 is, undoubtedly, the pool itself. Plunging to an incredible depth of 35 meters (115 feet), it is the deepest indoor diving pool in Asia. The pool is designed with several levels, including platforms at different depths for various training exercises. Watching divers from above descend into the deepest depths of watery oblivion has to be one of the most nail biting personal hells no one sane would ever do again. Still, I marveled at their skill and grace.

The folks at Paradive35 assured me that despite my swimming ability of a rock their facility is designed to cater to both novice and experienced divers. The pool features multiple training zones where divers can practice their skills in a controlled environment. These zones include platforms at 10 meters (30 feet). The facility also boasts an air pocket, or diving bell, for divers to explore. Knowing that these areas are designed with safety in mind made me rethink my strategy of rewatching the Little Mermaid ten times before arriving.

One of the most striking aspects of Paradive35 was the sense of community among the divers. It was clear that this facility attracts passionate and skilled individuals who share a love for diving. The camaraderie among the divers was evident, and their enthusiasm to dance with death was contagious. Even as an observer, I felt a part of this vibrant community despite preferring a VR PS5 swim game to the real thing.
