EDITOR’S NOTE: This contribution was emailed to me by a reader.
Hey there, I’ve been a big fan of KMK for a while so I thought it was finally time to contribute something to the site.
Anyways I was in Sinchon last week with some buddies and we ended up going to this new fish and chips shop called Battered Sole. The food was great, I had cod and chips and my friends tried the sausages and the fish cakes. All the dishes were homemade and pretty cheap, around 9000 won if I remember correctly.
Also the interior was pretty cool, very simple but also very relaxed. A lot of Rolling Stones posters on the walls. So if any of you happen to be in Sinchon I’d recommend checking it out. Definitely some of the best fish and chips I’ve tasted in Seoul.
Hope this is helpful, and keep up the good work at KMK!
p.s the place could be a bit hard to find if you’re not looking for it. I think there are directions on the facebook page.
Thanks for the contribution! I would like to add my own two cents cause after your recommendation loyal reader, I went out in search of these fabled fish & chips and I’m happy to say those lips don’t lie.
Battered Sole treated me to a heaping helping of fried golden deliciousness. The plate came crammed with tasty chips with the crunch I like. The battered cod was perfectly cooked: tender, moist, and piping hot with a flaky and crunchy breading. There was also a smashed pea as well as sausages and fish cakes on the menu.
You can decide to have your cod either soaked in beer or Guinness batter. There’s also a beer battered Pollock. I had to look Pollock up. It’s a popular alternative crab and it’s the fish used in the dreaded imitation crab meat. So, I suggest skipping that unless those faux-crab meat dishes are up you’re alley. There’s also a motley assortment of beer and alcoholic beverages to choose from.
The Good:
Tasty fish ‘n chips at a decent price.
The Bad:
I could have used more lemon wedges and tartar sauce.
The Weird:
I’m not British but mushed peas?

9,000 – 20,000 KRW including food and drinks

Hey nice blog man, just wondering how your rating system works? 2 stars on service and atmosphere? but no comment on why it got a low mark?
just wondering 🙂
For me service starts at fifty percent (2.5stars) as bare minimum. If the service goes beyond, then the rating goes up. For atmosphere I rate depending on the style of place, comfortableness, space, decor, mood and the general dining experience.
