KMK: Dancing 선생님 (Teacher)

Clubs Nightlife

As of late most of my partying has been happening in Itaewon. I’ve got no beef against “da won” but a man can only take so much of the same before it becomes a bit redundant. Sure, you can throw in a trip to the new Gold Bar but when I know the night is headed for Queen, Soho, and the hill every night there needs to be some change. So, when my bud Rebecca suggested Hongdae for her Birthday Celebrations I immediately clicked join and eager for some new scenery and different beats. We started the night at Vinyl (which everyone should) then walked over to Dancing 선생님 (teacher).

Dancing With Teacher

Hip. Chic. Modern. Those are the words that sum up this place best. You walk up to the entrance of glass walls that showcase a bar outlined in ever shifting neon colors and chrome balls reflecting the on going action. Admittedly the main draw, for me, was the promise of shirtless bar tenders as the night progressed but besides that Dancing 선생님 clearly has it’s act together.

Once inside we were given the choice of a table with set menu options or regular seating on the floor. Take the tables. You’ll probably wind up drinking as much as a set anyway and the table provides a sanctuary once the craziness starts. The sets clock in around 75,000KRW and up including a bottle of whatever plus a side dish and a mixer. I think we went through two or three sets plus some flaming drink I don’t know the name of.

The DJ belts out club beats and thumping tracks but as the hours ticked by I began to worry that no one would dance and no shirts would come off. The hostess kept promising soon, soon, but I was skeptical but it didn’t matter too much with such great company. Soon though as the witch’s hour approached (three A.M.) huge velvet curtains closed off the wall of windows a the entrance, the music cranked up and the dancing began! On the floor, on the table, in the balcony foots stomped, bodies shook, and hips swayed to the DJ’s snake charming rhythmic magic that took us to the edge of exhausting and over into a dizzying spiral of booze and booty shaking. Dancing Teacher, indeed.

The Good: Once the curtain closes the party is on!

The Bad: Sure, Sometimes I’m in it for the long haul but damn three am to get things jumping? Start somewhere else, but then you run into the line waiting to get in. Dilemma!

The Weird: The mayhem doesn’t start until three am!

The closest address I could find comes from woongkyoandyujung they give the address of the chicken spot and dancing is right across from there.

마포구 서교동 395-17 (Mapo-gu, Seogyo-dong 395-17) If you know where M2 is it’s just around the corner from there by that tall funky looking art building.
