Sometimes you just need something different. Sometimes you don’t want to go out of your way to get it. Sure, I can find the beats I want to hear by going to Hongdae, but sometimes I don’t want to leave my hood to hear the music I want to hear. Now I don’t have to. Now I have Dojo.
Dojo is the latest big thing to hit the gyeongridan/hbc area in a long time and it’s made an impact in a big way. You won’t hear bubblegum pop or k-pop at dojo. Here the bass is down low and thumping. Think underground djs and bands, spinning and blasting deep house with nothing on the agenda but to make your body move.
Dojo is the seed seen to fruition by three friends (Jinhwa Choi, Joseph Kim and Joss Wooju Ge) now partners in an endeavor to bring something new and exciting to the Itaewon area. So far it looks like they’re succeeding. So you can live out their motto: “work hard, play hard, sleep later!”.
The Good:
The music! Tired of the same old same old top forty hits from last summer? Yeah, me too. You won’t find it here!
The Bad:
Bartenders! Here’s a tip: if you smile, flirt, and generally pretend like you’re loving what you’re doing the customers will order more and tip generously.
The Weird:
The awesome underground faux-windows that shimmer rainbow colors.
