KMK: 63 Wax Museum

Arts Museums

I haven’t been to the 63 Building in years. The last time happened to be when my youngest brother came to visit Seoul for the first time. Then the 63 had the familiar IMAX, Aquarium and exhibition gallery on the top floor. Now, though, the latest addition to the 63 experience includes a wax museum.

I discovered it when my summer camp ventured off for a day at the 63.  I’d seen the other sights on my previous trip but the Wax Museum provided a welcome distraction from the deja vu experience. The wax dummies are divided up along occupattion, notoriety, and what seems like pop culture stature.

One section features world leaders Presidents Lee Myung Bak and Obama. Next up are historical figures  like Beethoven, Benjamin Franklin, and Gandhi. Another showcases sports figures with the obligatory Tiger Woods figure. The complete Last Supper is recreated complete with all 12 apostles and Jesus with a wind blown look. Famous actors have the due as well with the beloved Leonardo DiCaprio, James Dean, and a scary Marilyn Monroe.

Inexplicably there’s a Halloween Haunted House that’s big on cheese and small on thrills, but the kids seemed to love it. Be wary of mannequins popping out and electric chair shock shenanigans. There’s also a comic book inspired superhero and scifi section with Spider-man and I think Transzor-Z.

The Good:

If you’re already at the 63 building then its one more activity to do.

The Bad:

Madame Tussaud has nothing to fear. Life like won’t be in your vocab for the trip.

The Weird:

Marilyn Monroe looks like she was a boxer in a previous life.
