KMK: Jest Fest Rickshaw Run

Lifestyle

JEST FEST

Never heard of it? I didn’t either until Countess gave me the scoop on this worthwhile cause. Jest Fest is a fundraising comedy show and bake sale combo! They’ve corralled some of the funniest comedians and talented bakers in Korea to keep you laughing so hard you won’t mind you’re tummy’s full. Also there will be a raffle for a full sized carrot cake baked by Elinza Pretorious.

Now you might want to know what the fuss is all about? Well, read on!

The Rickshaw Run is pretty simple. With no preparation and less luggage you fly to the Indian Subcontinent and do your damnedest to force a 150cc glorified lawnmower over thousands of miles — 5,000km or 3,100 miles, to be exact! — of questionable terrain in around two weeks with no support at all. According to the officials this is adventure in the purest form. They are more than proud to say they WILL NOT follow you in a truck with spare parts and a comfy bed. The route changes with every race to make sure it’s a challenge. The routes are vaguely designed to make sure you are not on a guided tour and it takes at least 2 weeks to complete the race. The dates for the Spring 2011 run are April 17-May 1, 2011. There is no huge check that will be waiting for us. Just some tea and handshakes and maybe even a game of cricket!

Countess, Carleen, Peter and Nora will join forces as Team Rickety Cricket in order to raise at least $1500 for the organization’s charities of choice, which are located in India and Nepal. However, the team goal is to raise $10,000 or more! Anything that they raise over $1500 will go to a charity organization that they choose. The organization’s two charities for the Spring 2011 race are:

http://www.intrescue.org/ (International Rescue Corps) and

http://www.scad.org.in/index.php (Social Change and Development)

The Comedy Show/Bake Sale at Roofers on Friday, June 18.

Entry fee: W5,000 and we will be selling baked goods, so make sure to bring plenty of won 😉 All of the money collected from the event will go to the aforementioned charities.

DIRECTIONS:
Come out Itaewon station exit #3 and walk straight. You will see Dunkin Donuts on your right. After DD’s turn right up the hill. Walk about 60 meters and ROOFERS is on your right on the 3rd floor.
