Double Gold Standard? So, over in the Korean Herald an article talks about how a well to do millionaire single lady has yet to find someone to put a ring on it. The lady in question has been in business over 20 years and has accumulated a 20 billion won fortune, roughly 16 million US dollars.
Now that the forty-nine year old’s financial security is without question she’s in the mood for love. To get the ball rolling she hired a matchmaking service who put out an ad:
The proposal starts with the headline “success in business, now looking to succeed in love! We are looking for a special man who is going to be her lover.” The ad describes the client as “an elegant, slim, feminine and active woman who enjoys sports and traveling…Single man of the same age to 10 years below…who has “received four years college education or above, with a stable, professional job” and “who lives in Seoul or the Gyeonggi area and has a warm heart.”
Apparently, in Korea, a businesswoman between the ages of 30 to 49 making over 40 grand a year who hasn’t yet snagged the man of her dreams is called a gold miss. In comparison a man in a similar situation is called gay. I jest!
Although with the cash the lady in the article brings in she must be ultra gold. I say good for her to keep looking for that dreamboat, but maybe she’ll have better luck if she pulls a Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock and marry the blue collar guy next door instead of a white collar Lothario.
Though this does get complicated when all the gift exchanging occurs in Korean marriages, right? I mean, what typical fiance can compete gift wise with a woman with a 16 million dollar bank book. I’m sure her family might not be too please to be seeing a Kim’s Club dinner plate set as betrothal dowry gift.
Of course she could just get a boy toy like some of the men in her social bracket of an equivalent age. Gotta keep those options open, right? Be sure to read the article.
