Just last weekend I went to check out Platform Seoul with my friends Rebecca and Angela. I had heard of the event from Chris’ Blog. His pics and account of the two week long event provided the necessary spark to get my butt out of bed on a cold saturday morning and venture into Insadong.
Of course, before that could start I had to make a pit stop at The Waffle Factory for some much needed refueling with Jane and Angela.
After brunch it was just a matter of a quick bus ride to Insadong and the many upon many galleries I had no idea existed. Sure, I knew of a few of them, but I had no idea that across the street from the main Insadong area that a little oasis of chic-ness awaited my discovery.
There’s a virtual rabbit warren of little side streets, nooks, and crannies filled with posh little eateries, chic galleries, and designer boutiques just waiting to be perused and plundered.
The event itself spanned about a dozen different venues. The website provided this description:
“I have nothing to say and I am saying it” is a contemporary art exhibit that
brings together imagery, sound, light, dnace and theater-all elements that
interact with time and space-inviting the viewer to take part not as a visitor
but as an active participant.
I’ve almost felt that contemporary art should be more personal and interactive so I was overjoyed to experience what Platform had to offer.
On a sidenote the highlight for me had nothing to do with the Platform show. It was the exhibit by Hanna Kim. This is whimsical must see that may be too cutesy for some gnarled crusty hearted people. Just kidding.
This exhibit had an artist videotaping himself while he whispered sweet nothings to the camera and thereby you the viewer. Creepy. I don’t think anything coming from those lips could prove to be seductive unless it were the words “I’m still incarcerated until 2020”.

I’m sorry you missed all the fun, but it should be back next year. Until then go visit the area above Anguk station and Insdong because its well worth the trip. I’m definitey going back.
