KMK: Deoksugung Palace

Culture Lifestyle

WIKIPEDIA SAYS:

Deoksugung (Deoksu Palace) is a walled compound of palaces that was inhabited by
various Korean royalty until the Japanese occupation near the turn of the 20th century. The buildings are of varying construction, including some of natural sugi, painted wood, and stucco. Some buildings were built
in Western style.

In addition to the buildings at Deoksu Palace, there is also an art museum, forested gardens, and a statue of King Sejong the Great

Deoksugung Palace is a sprawling complex situated next to City Hall. The changing of the guard was pretty neat to watch and I was doubly pleased that we didn’t have to take a mandatory guided tour like some of the other palaces.

Not sure which building this is, probably the lavatory, pretty though, right?

Jeukjodang where King Gwanghaegun and Injo and Emperor Sunjong ascended the throne.

Seokjojeon, the stone building used by Emperor Gojong to receive foreign enovys, but it was under renovation so the above is a poster of how it would have looked! I bet you couldn’t tell.

There were so many doorways and pathways one could get lost.

Those days long ago in the far off past couldn’t be without a drinking fountain with faucets.

Sheila gives the whole experience a raspberry salute.

My favorite pic. I hope those aren’t tombstones were desecrating with our frivolity.

Good old Sejong the Great provided the best backdrop.

The changing of the guards was a whole event.
