KMK: The Federal Express

KmKorner Opinion

The deed is done! I signed my contract this morning and shipped everything by Federal Express from my local Kinkos. Here is a list of the documents I needed to send to my future school:

  • Signed Contract
  • 2 passport sized photos
  • A copy of my passport pages
  • My original diploma (you can also send a copy notarized by a Korean Consulate)
  • A copy of my resume

Now, all I have to do is wait. My school director will apply for my work visa when he gets my documents and then he’ll start looking for a flight for me to jet over to Korea. I think I’m going to arrive the last week of March which means I have three more weeks to get myself and things together for the trek across the globe.

I’m going to do some more research and start finding out what I need to bring. I already know that because I’m so tall that I should bring enough clothes to last. It seems that there will be nothing in my size. That goes for shoes too. I wear a size 15 – 16 and I probably won’t be able to find anything to fit me in Korea. If I do, it will most likely cost a fortune. I usually like to travel light when I go abroad, just a carry on crammed to the limits of bursting, but this time it looks like I’ll be one the clothes horses I feel sorry for when I see them dragging two tons of baggage around the airport. Oh well, it cannot be helped.

The last thing I want to do is recycle the same outfit in the same week. I keep reading that the South Koreans care a great deal about image and first impressions. The dress code where I’ll be working seems to be fairly casual with jeans being acceptable as long as they are paired with a collared shirt. I’m going to mosey on over to the outlet store in the coming week, so I can buy some nice dress shirts and a tie or two. A brother can’t show up looking pedestrian or they might throw me out on the street. If anyone can think of anything else I should bring please feel free to tell me.

Well, I’ve got things to do, but I’ll post later about all the Oscar Shenanigans that went on last night.
