Connections Education is committed to expanding quality education through technology and helping students achieve both academic and personal success.Texas Connections Academy@Houston serves students in grades 3-10, from anywhere in Texas, and is provided in partnership with the Houston Independent School District (HISD) and the Texas Virtual School Network's Online Schools. The program was launched in December 2008.Position Summary:Depending on the candidate selected, the position will be assigned to work in the Houston office or home-based in Arlington/DFW until an office is opened in that area. If an office is opened in the Arlington/DFW area based upon business needs, this position will become office-based in Arlington/DFW. The Assistant Principal will work collaboratively with the Principal and closely with key centralized Connections Academy service centers including Enrollment, Technical Support, Materials Management, Fulfillment, Finance, Human Resources, Payroll and Facilities Management under the supervision of the principal Responsibilities:• Assist with supporting the Connections Academy's Mission Statement and communicating school goals• Assist the principal and the Connections Academy centralized services in implementation of the curriculum and supervision of instruction, including individualization and personalization to meet the needs of individual students.• Assist the principal in implementing, monitoring and supervising the Connections Academy School Year Cycle.• Assist the principal in monitoring and supervising student achievement and participating in outcomes with appropriate data collection.• Assist the principal in supervising and evaluating the effectiveness of the staff in a performance-based environment• Support the principal in continuous school improvement.• Use multiple sources of data to assess student learning.• Provide for changes in course assignments to meet the needs of students.• Adhere to and supervise teachers in the Standards for Teaching at Connections Academy•Respond to all Learning Coach inquiries within 24 hours, including responses in WebMail, email, telephone, and message board postings, as appropriate•Develop and supervise processes for Welcome Calls, Personal Learning Plan contacts, curriculum based assessment contacts, and milestone contacts.•Document all interactions in user logs•Work with Learning Coaches to keep students on track•Supervise escalation systems and escalation action plans•Create an online learning community through small group collaborative assessments, online discussions, and team activities•Use Connections Academy's tools to personalize the students' program so each one will experience success•Supervise grading process including feedback on student work in a timely manner in order to support learning.•Supervise response to intervention• Supervise and support state requirements such as SSI requirements• Ability to communicate and support caretakers/Learning Coaches in successfully supporting their student in a state aligned curriculum that is accessed from home or any place where internet is accessible.• Support professional development of Career Ladder staff• Ensure that requirements are met for special services such as ESL, 504 and Special Education;• Manage the implementation of the proven Connections Academy operational protocols;• Support the principal and in managing the school's budget and various grants;• Oversee student accounting functions including attendance , truancy referrals, and support dual attendance reporting systems ;• Manage requests, receipt, storage and maintenance of student records through TReX, Chancery, and Connexus.• Manage reconciliation between Connections Academy's data systems and state and local student information systems to support timely PEIMS submissions;• Provided local support for facilities acquisition and maintenance as requested;• Act as a technology liaison for teachers and administrative staff;• Monitor regulatory compliance and support preparation for legislative and financial audits in collaboration with the principal and Manager of Internal Audits;• Monitor enrollment requirements and communicate requirements to the principal and Enrollment Department;• Provide state testing support including logistics for scheduling tracking participation and monitoring remote testing locations. Manage and support the implementation of a state testing plan for a “virtual hub” within the state;• Monitor and track school-based assets;• Support the Marketing Department with student outreach, marketing and public relations;• Stay current on the state's policies, procedures and legislation;• Be available to handle all emergencies; and• All other duties as assigned.
