KMK: El Bliss

Food Restaurants

EDITORS

Hip. Modern. Stylish. Those are the three words that sum up Hongdae’s El Bliss perfectly. It’s a lounge restaurant that brings a much needed grown up sensibilty to the wild child party scene vibe of Hongdae. The interior of El Bliss is sleek and sexy. Blacks and oranges combined with an edgy Asiatic influence makes one want to step inside looking one’s best.

It’s an atmosphere conducive for chatting, laughing, and drinking with friends. I’ve already mentioned the visuals and the sounds blend perfectly with a sonic seduction of the ears that doesn’t overpower or impede conversation. Idiosyncratic trip hop beats and ultra laid back lounge suits El Bliss.

Though while the mood of El Bliss wows the menu turned out to be hit and miss. For example, the Caesar Salad was scrumptious. The romaine lettuce, anchovies, and dressing left me thoroughly happy. The pizza however was underwhelming. I’ve had better from the freezer section of E-mart. Still the fish and chips hit the spot with crunchy golden battered succulent fish and crisp fries. Though the beef tortilla chips seemed better suited as an appetizer thanks to a poor portion size. Five chips do not a meal make. Kudos for presentation but I want my stomach satisfied first, not my eyes.

So while the menu turned out to be 50/50 El Bliss shined (pun intended) in the drink department. This is the spot to catch up over mojitos, sip wine with a special someone, toast champagne with good friends, or dish the dirt with gal pals and vodka crans. Their outside patio ensures plenty of late summer and early autumn evenings whiling away the night.
