KMK: Hungry Dog

Food Restaurants

Editor’s Note: Hungry Dog has moved further up the road near the 7-11 and is called Hair of the Dog now.

Hungry Dog is one of the latest arrivals to the HBC area. It’s the new incarnation of the former HBC bar which was a reincarnation of the HBC diner. This time around the spot has morphed into just what the neighborhood needed: another place to chow down.

The owners Sunny and Jun have come up with a menu that covers all the bases while including a few surprises as well. The breakfast menu you can even order your English muffin breakfast sandwiches early weekday mornings so you can grab it on the way to work. Not many other places are up at 7 AM weekdays. My favorite breakfast choice is the hungry morning which comes with bacon, sausage, mushrooms, two eggs, tomatoes, and beans. It’s priced at W8,500. There’s a stir fried vegan breakfast with tofu as well as options for french toast or pancakes topped with your choice of bananas and walnuts, blueberries, chocolate chips, bacon or sausage. There’s also a quick brewed cup of coffee to go for W1,500.

As for lunch the options are bit more varied. There are cheese, chili, bacon, or mushroom and eggplant sliders. Hot dog varieties come in polish sausage, chicago red hot, coney island chili dog, bratwurst with sauerkraut, or the hungry dog special. Daily Soups range from chicken noodle, minestrone, French onion, and lentil. Each priced at W5,500. Appetizers include fries, chili cheese fries, toasted ravioli, chicken tenders, a prawn cocktail, and a humus plate all between W5,000 and W8,500. The dinner options include garlic chicken steak, chicken souvlaki, fish and chips, pork soulvaki or sirloin. W11,000 to W14,900.

I never go wrong with the hungry morning breakfast. The fish and chips are also excellent as well as the volcano cheese steak. Everything is not perfect though. There are a few things the Hungry Dog needs to work on. For example, the steak i doubt I will have again. The sides could have used bigger sized portions.  The tuna melt also was just okay.
